And in the courses offered in both the Speech and Drama departments, students have a chance to hone these skills in a variety of courses. From Public Speaking to Interpersonal Communication, Introduction to Theater to Acting and Directing, students exercise and nurture their natural abilities to speak comfortably in a variety of social situations, persuade and articulate their point of view, and incorporate their body, voice, and imagination in multiple contexts. In addition to these courses that complete the Humanities portion of a general studies degree, students may opt to participate in one of the many co-curricular projects available in the Drama department. Each quarter the department produces a mainstage production in partnership with community groups like PALOA (Port Angeles Light Opera Association). Past productions include the world premiere of PC instructor Michael Mills' unforgettable 'Freak Like Me', the notorious 'Rocky Horror Show', as well as more serious dramatic fare like Peter Shaffer's 'Equus'. Resident director and PC Drama instructor Dr. Lara Starcevich teaches courses in both Speech and Drama. Kelly Doran, theatre professional and speech instructor, also offers public speaking. And occasionally guest directors - both student and professionals in the community - join the department to share their expertise.
