About

Coach Hughes was named head coach of the nationally-ranked Pirate soccer program in March, following a seven-week national search that featured 34 applicants from three countries. Hughes initially returned to Peninsula College in 2015, a place where he played from 2010-2012, winning an NWAC championship in 2010 and capturing West Division titles both years. That experience paid great dividends in his first year as an assistant coach, as Hughes helped head coach Cale Rodriguez guide the 2015 Pirates to their fourth NWAC title in six years. Hughes, who also assisted the Pirate women's team in 2015, moved solely to the men's program in 2016 where he helped the Pirates win an eighth straight league championship. Now, as head coach, Hughes' vision for the program includes winning more championships, recruiting outstanding student athletes, and then working hard on skill development, character development, and moving those players on to the next level. Hughes has an Associate of Arts Degree from Peninsula College, a Bachelor's Degree in English-Mass Communication from Adams State, and is completing a Masters Degree in in Instructional Design and Technology through American College of Education. Born in London, England, and only a few years out of college, he is already building an impressive soccer resume. He assisted at Sequim High School where the Wolves qualified for the playoffs, he has coached the Peninsula Soccer Academy girls team, and he has coached at a number of youth soccer camps and ID camps. In addition to coaching, Hughes assists in the operation of the Fitness Center and teaches physical education at Peninsula College. Hughes and his wife Kelsey reside in Sequim, Washington.
