TUKWILA - The Pirates opened 2017 with a target on their backs, namely the 2016 NWAC championship, and the defending South champion Clark women took their best shot in Thursday's season-opener at the 2017 NWAC Friendlies at Starfire Sports.
Peninsula went out on top early with the first collegiate goal by freshman Bri Duran, assisted by Jordan DiCintio, but Clark answered - and that 1-1 score stood through halftime and well into the second half.
Peninsula sophomore Sydney Warren, who scored 12 goals in 2016, came back onto the field after a breather and quickly put two goals in the Penguin net to secure the win for her Pirates. Those goals were assisted by Jayna Morikawa and Sarah Reiber.
The Pirates return to the Starfire Sports complex Friday for an 8 a.m. match against defending East Region champion Spokane. The PC women will be at home Tuesday for an 11 a.m. non-conference match against Tacoma.
