March is the perfect time to shake off the winter blues and enjoy the great sounds of jazz performed by the Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble. The group will present two free concerts during the month of March, providing a choice in both time and venue.
Jazz in the PUB will be held on Tuesday, March 5, from 12:30 to 1:30 pm in the Pirate Union Building, and the ensemble’s annual winter concert will be on Tuesday, March 12, at 7:00 pm in Maier Performance Hall. The ensemble is directed by PC music director Dr. David P. Jones.
Featured music will be Standards by Van Heusen and Jobim, plus music by Duke Ellington, Woody Herman, Thelonious Monk, Horace Silver, Hank Mobley, Chuck Mangione and two new works by David P. Jones.
Robbin Eaves will be the featured soloist with the seventeen-piece big band and will sing "How Insensitive," "I Remember April," and "I Could Have Told You."
Band members include Bob Bailey, Kevin MacCartney, Richard Thorson, Steve Lingle, Jared Herr, Brittany Brabant, Malachi Mulhair, Sophy Doryland, Elaine Gardner-Morales, Mike Mills, and Tor Brandes, all of Port Angeles; Bob Hagan, Sanford Feibus and Duncan Skinner of Sequim; John Adams of Port Townsend; John Sanders of Quilcene; and Robbin Eaves of Joyce.
