Laugh out loud each week with LOLOLYMPICS, a free drop-in Improv workshop held on Zoom, courtesy of Peninsula College, Olympic Theatre Arts, and Port Angeles Community Players.
“Whether you want to add a little spicy fun to your week or you’re looking for a confidence booster, improv can help you develop interpersonal skills and even make you some cool new friends,” said PC Drama Professor Dr. Lara Starcevich.
LOLOlympics will be held on Zoom each Tuesday from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm. All ages are welcome, and no experience is necessary. Folks who join can also participate in LOLOlympics monthly live series, the first Tuesday of each month at Studio Bob’s in Port Angeles.
“Improv is like acting, but without a script,” Starcevich explained. “It’s made up as you go, but there is an underlying structure that helps improv scenes sparkle each time. We will practice that structure and hone that craft each week.”
Part of that structure involves improv’s golden rule: the "YES AND" principle where you accept each other’s ideas and add your own touch to them, Starcevich said.
“Another cornerstone of improv is to embrace mistakes. Just like the legendary painter Bob Ross said so eloquently, there are no mistakes… just ‘happy little accidents,’” she said. “Improv, like life, works when you’re really listening to your scene partner and supporting each other.”
