The Soroptimist International of Port Angeles has announced a partnership with Peninsula College Foundation, establishing an endowment for Peninsula College student scholarships. The “Soroptimist International of Port Angeles Nursing Scholarship” shall be awarded annually to a nursing student at Peninsula College beginning this July.
This scholarship fund was created largely because of a generous bequest from the family of Helen Mangan, a previous Soroptimist member. Helen and her husband, Dr. Al Mangan, were part of the medical community in Port Angeles. The remaining portion of the endowment came primarily from a fund established within the group through contributions from its members.
Soroptimist International of Port Angeles was chartered in 1944. Soroptimist is a coined word that means “best for women.” The organization’s mission is to improve the lives of women and girls and to provide community service in Port Angeles and Clallam County.
Peninsula College Foundation is a nonprofit that supports students and programs at Peninsula College. The Foundation is committed to permanently protecting principle endowment gifts, using investment earnings to provide enduring support for students and College programs.
