Peninsula College is bringing back Community Education classes this summer to offer flexible opportunities for online learning. Course offerings will include a variety of subjects, including social media marketing, expressions of what it means to be human, solo vocals, and IBM badge courses in emerging technologies such as Cybersecurity, Block Chain and Artificial Intelligence designed to take tech students and workers to the next level.
“I am delighted to empower our students with artistic, technological, and collaborative networking skills to elevate their dreams, reach their goals, and in turn uplift our entire community,” says long-time Community Education instructor and Peninsula College faculty member, Renne Emiko Brock. This summer, Brock will be teaching Social Media Marketing and WordPress Website Design, as well as co-teaching Understanding the Humanities with four other college faculty, through Community Education.
Due to budget challenges, the Peninsula College Community and Business Education Program was temporarily suspended in Spring of 2019. While the hiatus saddened campus and community alike, the college needed time to develop new models to make the program financially sustainable.
“This summer’s Community Education line-up is really about being responsive to the community’s request to bring Community Education back as soon as possible. While offering this slate of summer courses we are experimenting with new business models that can sustain community education at Peninsula College long-term,” says Chief Strategy Officer, June Whitaker. “We are excited to offer a range of course offerings, test some new approaches, and take what we learn into the official re-launch some time in the 2020-2021 academic year.”
Community Education includes classes, workshops, trainings, and other resources that meet the needs of community members of all ages seeking enrichment, professional and business development, and job training.
This summer’s courses include Social Media Marketing, Understanding the Humanities, Summer Solo Vocal Workshop, IBM Skills Academy: Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Blockchain and Data Science, Summer Guitar, WordPress Website Design, Intro to Herbal Medicine, Grant Writing Boot Camp, Social Entrepreneurship Boot Camp, Business Model Creation Workshop, Survey of Medicinal Mushrooms, and Survey of Adaptogens. Course offerings range from single day two-hour workshops to weekly courses and registration fees start at $45. For full class information and to register, visit https://pencol.edu/ce.
Community Education is central to Peninsula College’s mission and enables the college to exchange knowledge and resources and to offer engaging, flexible educational opportunities that meet community needs.
