The final concert in the 2018/2019 Maier Hall Concert Series will be performed by artists who have travelled from the other side of the world to share their unique program with local audiences.
The St. Petersburg Men’s Ensemble will take the stage in Maier Performance Hall on Friday, May 3, at 7:00 pm.
Founded in 2003, this powerhouse acappella quartet from Russia makes it possible for a wide audience to enjoy musical compositions that would normally require a much larger number of performers. Their repertoire encompasses various musical periods and styles, from ancient Russian chants to chorales of Western and East European masters, to modern contemporary. Kirill Sokolov, Sergey Shapinsky, Vadim Smanster, and Andrei Volikov have been performing in churches and concert halls throughout the world for the past 15 years. Each member brings extensive training and experience to the presentation, having attended the Glinka Choir School and the St. Petersburg Conservatory.
The four men, all natives of Russia and all associated with some of the finest choral ensembles in that country, bring an authentic experience of Russian classical, folk, and liturgical repertoire that is beyond description.
