Getting Prepared is Highly Recommended
To access a COMPASS practice test, go to this recommended ACT site: www.act.org/compass/sample/index.html.
There are two places to access sample questions: Sample Test Questions and More Sample Test Questions.
Along the left-hand side you will also find Test-Taking Tips and Calculator Guidelines.
To further your preparation for the COMPASS test try these resources:
Taking placement assessments
- COMPASS at the Port Angeles campus is offered in the Student Services (clock tower) Building 'D', Room 212.
- Pay the $20 testing fee (retesting fee is $15) at the Student Services Front Desk (main floor).
- Please bring your receipt, picture ID and your Peninsula College ID number to the testing center on the second floor.
- Calculators are allowed, per ACT guidelines.
The assessment score indicates the appropriate starting point for each student. COMPASS is a computerized placement assessment. It is untimed, and therefore it is hard to estimate how long the session may last. An average time is 2 hours. Your results will be available minutes after finishing.
You must take a placement assessment if you have not satisfactorily completed one or more quarters of college-level work, including English and mathematics, with a 2.00 GPA or higher. Incoming students with Advanced Placement Test scores of 3 or better in English and mathematics may have the assessment process waived. Contact Enrollment Services for AP test score evaluation. Call (360) 417-6340 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Placement scores are valid for two years.
We accept the following assessments: ACCUPLACER, ASSET, and COMPASS. If you took your assessment at a different college and it has been less than two years, please have the college fax us a copy. Our fax number is: (360) 417-6416.
Running Start candidates can determine eligibility by showing college-level English and/or math skills through assessment.
Toll-free at (877) 452-9277, Ext. 6346.
Peninsula College accepts most placement scores from other colleges. You can either bring them in a sealed envelope or ask the other college to fax them to us at (360) 417-6416. Call the testing center with questions at (877) 452-9277, Ext. 6346.
