Free Greek Dance Workshop
Complementing Greek Taverna Night at Peninsula College
Starting Monday, October 22, Peninsula College will be offering a series of free Greek dance lessons to anyone who wants to come and learn the art of Greek dancing as it’s been done for thousands of years. And once you’ve learned, you can show off your new skills at Peninsula College’s Greek Taverna Night Saturday, November 10.
The Dance Workshops will be offered Mondays on October 22 and 29 and November 5 from 12:00 to 1:30 pm and Thursdays on October 25 and November 1 and 8 from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. All workshops will be held in the PUB Conference Room (J building, Room 47).
The varied schedule allows plenty of opportunity to pick and choose the time slot that best fits your own schedule, says Sophia Iliakis Doherty, who will be the dance instructor.
Iliakis Doherty, who is director of international student and faculty services at Peninsula College, has taught Greek dancing for several years.
Greek Taverna Night will be held November 10 at Peninsula College and will feature a full Greek Taverna-style dinner complete with the opportunity to dance during the dinner portion of the evening followed by rousing performances by two Eastern European dance troupes, Radost and Bokréta, in the college’s Little Theater. Admission is $65 per person or $120 per couple. Tickets must be purchased by November 1 and can be bought at www.peninsulacollege.camp9.org or by contacting International Student and Faculty Services at (360) 417-6491.
