Summary of Duties
Performs retail sales, food and drink preparation, and other duties related to operation of The Bookaneer Market and Deli. Work involves preparing drinks, some of which may require special techniques and care to reduce costs and to serve properly.
- Assists customers in merchandise selection and purchase; operates cash registers in retail and/or service operation.
- Waits on food counter customers and sell merchandise, determine customer needs, and assist or direct customers to appropriate personnel. Fill orders for delivery to customers.
- Prepares and serves drinks in the Market & Deli coffee shop; Follows standard recipes for drink preparation. Preparing ingredients beforehand, like filling ice and preparing cold brew.
- Operates standard cooking equipment such as mixers, grinders, espresso machines & blenders.
- Participates in kitchen and dining area and equipment and utensils washing and cleaning to maintain equipment in a safe and sanitary manner.
- Reviews all work products to ensure highest level of quality.
- Maintain and ensure stock levels are adequate to meet customer demand; arranges supplies and merchandise on shelves and in displays at food counter.
- Take part in conducting the annual physical inventory and serve as a primary member of inventory crew. Maintains inventory adjustments and returns.
- Perform other work as required.
Minimum Qualifications / Required Skills:
- Punctuality and dependability.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Communicate effectively
- Basic math skills
- WA State Food Worker card (must be acquired within 14 days of beginning employment)
- Comply with laws and regulations governing food preparation.
- Handle stressful situations in a professional manner, including angry or difficult customers.
- Prepare quantities of drinks required with a minimum of waste.
- Maintain kitchen, dining areas, kitchen utensils and equipment in a sanitary manner.
Preferred Skills:
- Previous cashier experience
- Customer service experience
- Previous barista experience

10. Workplace Simulation Mastery: Student worker will learn how to receive and learn from feedback, importance of regular input to and from the supervisor, and the supervisor will perform genuine performance evaluations and exit interviews.
