Learn how to help people during medical emergencies. The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program provides the skills and hands-on training needed to begin a career in emergency medical services (EMS).
Students learn how to assess patients, provide emergency care, and safely transport people who are sick or injured before they reach a hospital. In this course, you will learn about:

The program includes hands-on lab activities and 133 hours of clinical experience in the field. Students have the opportunity to work with patients and practice important EMT skills. The course includes 198 hours of instruction over one quarter.
Class Schedule:
- Wednesday: 6:00–10:00 pm
- Saturday: 9:00 am–6:00 pm
Additional hours for field internships and Health Care Provider CPR training may be scheduled outside of regular class times. Students who successfully complete the course will receive an EMT Program Certificate of Completion. Graduates are also eligible to take the National Registry EMT certification exam.
Application Requirements:
- Be at least 17 years old (at the start of class)
- Have a high school diploma or GED (or be enrolled in Running Start)
This course adheres to the U.S. Department of Transportation Guidelines and the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services Standards. Admission into the EMT (FA 120) course is regulated by Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 246-976-041, which states that a candidate must be at least 17 years of age at the beginning of the class.
National Registry EMT Certification Exam Requirements:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Hold a current Health Care Provider CPR card
Important: Students may enroll in the course at age 17, however you must be at least 18 years old to receive Washington State EMT certification and work as an EMT.

Accepted students will be notified by email about four weeks before classes begin. Students will receive registration instructions, a course schedule, and textbook information.

Emergency Management Technician Application
This application will ask for additional details about your qualifications and readiness for the program. After submitting the application, you will be asked to submit an affiliation agreement.

EMTs are employed by ambulance services, fire departments, hospitals, search-and-rescue organizations, the National Park Service, and other emergency response agencies. An EMT provides emergency medical care to people who are sick or injured, helps assess and stabilize patients, and safely transports them to medical facilities when needed. EMTs use specialized equipment, communicate with healthcare teams, and follow established medical protocols to provide safe and effective care in emergency situations.
