This fall, Shakespeare fan Anna Andersen comes to Peninsula College to direct her own adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays: Macbeth, or as theatrical enthusiasts call it: “The Scottish Play.” Legend has it that if you say the word “Macbeth” while standing in a theater, you might just get bad luck.
Andersen sums up her version thusly, “This will be a play within a play, about a group of people rehearsing Macbeth who are beset by several challenges. From the absence of key actors, to confusion about the meaning of the text, the group tackles each challenge with creativity and a little silliness. While the famous curse may or may not wreak havoc on the players, they do manage a much shortened and highly dramatic version of Macbeth in the end.”
Anna moved to Port Angeles from California, where she worked extensively as an actor, director and teacher for more than 20 years. As Program Director of Shakespeare by the Sea, she had a hand in the development of one of the most successful Shakespeare companies in Los Angeles. Here on the Peninsula, she was the co-founder and Artistic Director of PAFAC's Shakespeare in the Woods; a repeat guest director at Port Angeles High School, and has been writing and directing plays for developmentally disabled actors since 2016. She dabbles in the local community theaters as a director, actor, and acting/audition coach. As a teacher, Anna has experience with every skill level, and specializes in fitting her students' unique talents into each role.
