The Perkins Direct Assistance Program provides essential support to students from special populations who are enrolled in Professional-Technical programs at Peninsula College.
This program ensures equitable access and success by offering financial aid, academic support, and resources such as childcare in the Peninsula College Early Childhood Development Center to help students overcome barriers to participation and program completion.
Perkins Direct Assistance Program grants are designed to assist students facing unique or special circumstances. You may be eligible for Perkins funding if you belong to one of the following:
- Individuals with disabilities
- Individuals from economically disadvantaged families, including low-income youth and adults
- Individuals preparing for non-traditional fields
- Single parents, including single pregnant women
- Out-of-workforce individuals
- English learners
- Homeless individuals as described in section 725 of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act (42 U.S.C. 11434a)
- Youth in or aged out of the foster care system
- Youth with a parent who:
- Is a member of the armed forces (as defined in section 101(a)(4) of title 10, United States Code)
- Is on active duty (as defined in section 101(d)(1) of such title)
Do You Qualify?
To qualify for Perkins Direct Assistance, students must meet the following conditions:
- Be enrolled at least half-time in a Professional-Technical program at Peninsula College.
- Be a member of a special population* as defined above.
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Be eligible for the federal Pell Grant.
- Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
- Submit a completed application for Perkins assistance on an annual basis.
Important Information
Perkins Direct Assistance is intended to address barriers to student participation in Professional-Technical programs and may not exceed a student’s financial need. Funding is limited to tuition and fees and must be paid directly to the college. Perkins funds cannot be disbursed directly to students.
