Students from the three digital storytelling courses, MEDIA 195 Infographics and Data Visualization, MEDIA 196 Intro to 3D Design, and Digital Storytelling will present our virtual learning environment for inclusive engagement and student support.
Since 2015, instructor Renne Emiko Brock’s three transformative media digital storytelling courses have been working on a persistent, ongoing New Student Orientation Digital Storytelling Project. This project gathers vital information from students and produces multimedia content to best support them through their college journey and beyond. It includes an immersive and interactive learning environment adventure that teaches incoming and current students about resources and opportunities.
Over our nearly 10-year project together, we have created informative experiences that include the lifecycle of a college student through the lens of The Hero's Journey, a 3D walkthrough of Guided Pathways Areas of Study, Funding and Scholarship Systems, Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion leadership and perspective training, PC Wraparound services and resources, and this year we are focused on Self-Care.
This project has been open to a global audience since the beginning, and other educational and nonprofit communities have been active participants in it. Every year, I have been fortunate to present at education conferences about the evolution of this project and how it impacts our students as transformative media experiences, project-based learning opportunities, and their own personal growth evolution while supporting incoming students and fellow classmates.
