Twelfth Annual Jazz on the Lawn

Event Date:
Monday, August 8, 2022 - 12:00pm
Event Location:
Peninsula College South Lawn

Peninsula College’s Jazz Ensemble is proud to present the twelfth annual “Jazz on the Lawn” concert on Monday, August 8. The free, 90-minute performance will begin at noon on the south lawn behind the PUB at PC’s Port Angeles campus.

“This is a perfect informal, summertime environment in which to hear some jazz,” said Ensemble Director Dr. David P. Jones. The group features five horns, three rhythm instruments, and vocalist Robbin Eaves from Joyce.

The band will play a wide variety of music, including compositions by Duke Ellington, Stevie Wonder, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Dizzy Gillespie, Clifford Brown, Vincent Youmans, and the Average White Band as well as two world premieres by Dr. Jones.

The performers in the band represent some of the very best jazz that the North Olympic Peninsula has to offer. From Port Angeles are Richard “Doc” Thorson (tenor sax), Jim Bradbury (trumpet/flugelhorn), Max Larsen (bass), Marge Rosen (drums), and David Jones (keyboards/director).  From Sequim are Dan James (trumpet), and Jeff Dingle (trombone), while John Adams (alto sax & bass clarinet) hails from Port Townsend.

Several singers from Elaine Gardner-Morales’ Vocal Master Class will be invited to sing with a crack rhythm team consisting of Al Harris, Elaine Gardner-Morales, Marge Rosen, and Bonnie Booth. Featured singers include Tess Teel, Sophia Doherty, Janet Lucas, Signe Crawford, Evelyn Leigh, and Cheryl Bell. Vocal selections will include music by Billy Strayhorn, Romberg/Hammerstein, Rodgers/Hart, Isham Jones, The Atlanta Rhythm Section, Green Day, Kurt Weill, and the Eurythmics.

Guests are invited to bring a blanket or lawn chair for seating, as well as food and non-alcoholic beverages. The Market & Deli will be serving lunch items in the PUB as well.

In the event of rain, the cafeteria area inside the PUB will serve as an alternative venue.

For more information contact Dr. Jones at (360)-417-6405 or at djones@pencol.edu.
