- Parent Tax Return Transcript Required
Your application was selected for a process called federal verification. As part of the Academic Year 2023-24 verification process, you are required to submit an IRS Tax Return Transcript or a signed copy of the 2021 income tax return for each parent/stepparent whose data was included on your 23-24 FAFSA.
Please be advised that WE CANNOT PHOTOCOPY TAX RETURN TRANSCRIPTS OR TAX RETURNS FOR YOU.
NOTE: If you are applying for the 2022-2023 school year, a 2020 Tax Return Transcript or tax return is required.
You must submit a copy we can keep. If your parents do not have a copy of their IRS Tax Return Transcript they can log onto http://irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript, call the IRS at 1 (800) 908-9946 and request a Tax Return Transcript, or go to www.studentaid.gov “Corrections on the Web” and use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool. (Your parents must have filed their taxes electronically and have an accepted return with the IRS to utilize this tool.) If your parents did not and will not file a tax return, you must report this on the Dependent Verification Worksheet where indicated.
What to do if your parents did not file a tax return:
Please obtain a Verification of Non-Filing Letter from the IRS for the 2021 tax year. In order to receive this, you must complete an IRS Form 4506-T, available at https://www.irs.gov/forms-pubs/about-form-4506t . Please make sure to complete all appropriate sections of the form including selecting/checking box 7, filling out section 9 for the tax year, and checking the signatory attestation box. Submit the form to the IRS as indicated in the form instructions.
If you have a documented attempt to, and are unable to obtain a Verification of Non-Filing Letter from the IRS, the financial aid office may accept a signed statement (including Parent(s) name, Date, SSN & SID of student) certifying that —
- You tried to get the Verification of Non-Filing Letter from the IRS and were unable to get the required documentation; and
- Have not filed and are not required to file a 2021 income tax return, and if applicable a list of any 2021 income you’ve earned from work and your employer(s); and
- A copy of IRS Form W–2 for 2021, or an equivalent document, for each source of 2021 employment income received by you, if applicable.
REMEMBER to make sure your name and Student ID is on each page of your parent's tax transcripts.
