Your application was selected for a process called federal verification. As part of the Academic Year 2025-26 verification process, you are required to submit a copy of your (and your spouse's) 2023 IRS Tax Return Transcript or a signed copy of the 2023 income tax return (IRS form 1040) with all related schedule forms included.
You must submit a copy we can keep. If you do not have a copy of your 2023 IRS Tax Return Transcript you can create an account on the IRS website (http://irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript) to download a copy, or call the IRS at 1-800-908-9946 and request a Tax Return Transcript.
If you (and/or your spouse) did not and will not file a tax return for 2023, you must report this on the Independent Verification Worksheet where indicated.
(Note: If you are applying for the 2024-2025 academic year, submit documents for 2022 tax year.)
What to do if you (and/or your spouse) did not file a tax return:
Please request a Verification of Nonfiling letter from the IRS for tax year 2023. You can do this on the IRS website or by submitting IRS form 4506-T to the IRS; form 4506-T is available on our Financial Aid Forms page here: https://pencol.edu/financial-aid-office/financial-aid-forms
Submit the Verification of Nonfiling letter to the Financial Aid Office with your (and your spouse's) W-2 forms from 2023 attached (if you or they had income earned from working in 2023.) If you are married, a Verification of Nonfiling letter is required for both you and your spouse.
REMEMBER to make sure your name and Student ID is on each page of your tax transcript.
If you have questions, please contact the Financial Aid Office at 360-417-6390 or financialaid@pencol.edu
